INTRODUCTION
Judo Kata is more than just a sequence of movements—it is an essential part of Judo philosophy and serves as a fundamental training method to develop technique, timing, and understanding of Judo principles. Jigoro Kano, the founder of Judo, introduced Kata not only as a method to assess technical proficiency but also as a tool to cultivate moral values such as respect, discipline and mutual welfare (Jita Kyoei).
However, Kata was not an invention of Judo. The concept of prearranged forms has existed in various martial arts traditions for centuries. Kano refined and structured these methods within Judo, ensuring that Kata would serve as a bridge between traditional martial arts and modern sport.
